Sound sensor (dB, frequency and air pressure)

Item nr. BT80i Category
The sound sensor consists of a microphone and an amplifier. The sensor measures variations in air pressure in the measurement range between -45 and 45 Pa, caused by a sound wave. With the sensor, you can measure and analyze frequencies, and measure sound intensity and the speed of sound.

Description

The sound sources that can be used to measure the frequency are tuning forks, electronic keyboards, and musical instruments. You can perform a complete signal analysis with Coach. You can also examine a human voice or a whistle. The sensor can also be used for dB measurements.
Due to its high sensitivity, the sensor is very suitable for detecting short pressure pulses. This offers the possibility to measure the speed of sound.

Technical specifications:

  • Frequency range: 20 Hz .. 20000 Hz
  • Sound level range: 40 .. 130 dB
  • Air pressure range: -45 .. 45 Pa (0.45 mbar)
  • Resolution: 22 mPa
  • Maximum sample frequency: 100 kHz (CoachLab II+, WiLab) / 1 MHz (VinciLab 2)
  • Required: One sensor cable (BTsc_1 or BTsc_1Short)
  • Warrantee: 3 years

All technical specifications of the sensor are described in the product manual, see downloads.

The sound sensor can be used in a variety of experiments with sound waves such as:

  • Measure wave patterns (frequency and amplitude of sound)
  • Measure the speed of sound through air and other materials
  • Compare waveforms from various musical instruments
  • Study beat patterns
  • Display the Fourier transform (FFT) of a sound
